Know Disasters magazine: January - February 2022
Disasters are never gender-neutral. They often affect women and girls disproportionately to men and boys due to gender inequalities caused by socioeconomic conditions, cultural beliefs, and traditional practices. This January - February 2022 issue covers all such aspects of disasters that are often neglected.
When natural hazards meet the existing socio-economic vulnerabilities of populations, the neutrality transforms into gender-bias impacts of disasters. This gender-bias impact of disasters adversely affects development efforts and undermines the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR). It is critical to recognize the relationship between gender equality and disaster resilience and its connection with the achievement of our goals and objectives enshrined in the SFDRR and SDGs.
