The Avoidable Deaths Network invites the global disaster risk reduction (DRR) community to join two online sessions during the UNOCHA HNPW 2026 exploring how campaigns and communication can help prevent avoidable disaster deaths. Both sessions support the Sendai Framework targets and contribute to ADN’s global initiative celebrating the International Awareness Day for Avoidable Deaths (IAD4AD) campaign throughout the entire month of March.

Session 1: Is the climate crisis also a communication crisis?

3 March 2026 | 14:30–16:00 UTC+1 , 13:30–15:00 (BST)

This dynamic debate explores how misinformation, ideological polarisation and information overload shape climate action. Participants and experts will discuss barriers to climate communication and how stronger narratives, especially linking climate change to public health can mobilise public engagement.
